Daniil Medvedev beats Pierre-Hugues Herbert in the final of the Open 13 Provence
Daniil Medvedev is the 21st winner of the Open 13 Provence. The Russian defeated the likes of Frenchman Pierre-Hugues Herbert in 3 sets 6-4 6-7(4) 6-4.
Once again, Herbert put up a much stronger fight than experts would have thought. The 93rd player in the world, who will now go up 18 spots in the rankings thanks to his amazing week in Marseille, was maybe not volleying quite as well as he's been since the week started, but he stuck to his game plan.
However Medvedev, who will become number 2 in the world tomorrow, was just too good. He was not presented with many opportunities, but the few he had he seized with both hands and did not let go.
Medvedev captured his 10th title and became the 21st player to lift the Marseille trophy. In his winning speech, the Russian said that next year he hopes to be able to celebrate his win with the fans in the arena as it should have been this year.
Sounds good Daniil. See you next year.
