Stefanos Tsitsipas will play the semi-finals of the Open 13 Provence for the second year in a row. The defending champion beat Canadian Vasek Pospisil 7/5 6/3 in 1h26.
Before arriving in Marseille, Stefanos Tsitsipas had won only three small matches in 2020. A timid start to the season which contrasted with his victory at the Masters at the end of 2019. But the Greek, ranked 6th in the world, is fond of the Marseille tournament. He proved it once again by reaching the semi-finals of this 28th edition without conceding a single set, as he did when he won last year.
Against Vasek Pospisil, recent finalist in Montpellier, Stefanos Tsitsipas had to wait until the 11th game of the first set to break. The Greek had a first opportunity at 3/3 in the first set, but Pospisil had rejected it. At 5/5, Tsitsipas didn't let his chance go to waste this time. Serving at 6/5, Stef concluded the set with an authoritative ace (7/5).
"An extraordinary atmosphere
Despite Vasek Pospisil's resistance, Stefanos Tsitsipas was able to stay on course. At 3-3 in the second set, the winner of the last edition broke again. Pospisil did not play a single game, leaving the world number 6 to join Alexander Bublik in the semi-finals.
" The score does not fully reflect the matchsaid Stef after his victory. But I was in my zone from the start and I stayed there. I knew I would have to stay focused throughout the game. That's what I did. "Stefanos Tsitsipas continues his great adventure in Marseille. " When the tournament director invited me three years ago, it was only my second tournament on the tour. It's special for me. There's a really great atmosphere here. "
Against Bublik, who beat Denis Shapovalov in the quarter-finals, Stefanos Tsitsipas knows that things won't be easy. If he is to make any headway, he will need to concentrate once again...
