BERDYCH SHAKES BUT DOESN'T FALL

Number one seed of the tournament, Tomas Berdych had a little scare for his opening match at the Open 13. The Czech needed three sets to get rid of Ernests Gulbis of Latvia, who did save three match points in the second set tie-breaker. In the third set, Berdych only needed one break to get the best of Gulbis. After Bernnard Tomic, Tomas Berdych is the second quarter finalist of the Open 13. He will match-up with the winner of the match between Jerzy Janowicz and Julien Benneteau.

BENNETEAU CONTROLS POUILLE

Recent runner-up in Rotterdam, defeated by Juan Martin Del Potro, Julien Benneteau had a tougher time then he had imagined to get through the first round of the Open 13. His opponent, tournament wild card ranked 412th in the world Lucas Pouille will surely not stay at this ranking for long and should sooner more than later enter tournaments on his ranking with no wild card needed. In th emean time he pushed Benneteau to a first set tie-breaker in which Pouille crumbled not scoring a single point. The second set was a question of one break in favor of Benneteau. Final score 7-6 6-3. In the second round, Benneteau one of the best returns in the game will face off with Jerzy Janowicz one of the best serves in the game.

GRANOLLERS GET'S RID OF MONFILS

In the last match of the day, Gaël Monfils could not handle the likes of Marcel Granollers. In search of confidence, the loss versus number 35 in the world is not exactly a surprise. On the other hand Granollers is not searching for confidence. He has everything he needs on that aspect. His 6-4 6-4 dismissal of Gael Monfils only proves that. In the second round he will face off with Gilles Muller.
