Soderling suffers but survives

The number 1 seed of the tournament, Robin Soderling, pulled out a painful qualification for the quarter finals versus Ukranian Sergiy Stakhovsky. The Swede needed three sets, 6-7(5) 6-3 6-4 to get the best of his opponent. Last weeks winner in Rotterdam, benefiting of a bye in the 1st round, clearly lacked of rhythm, which explains a painful first set. In the next round, Soderling won't have the luxury of a slow start as he will face the serve and volley specialist Michaël Llodra.
